New Guy.

Hey guys just thought i would introduce myself. Im from Lewiston, Idaho and i want to start swinging fly's! I grew up in Idaho Falls Terrorizing the southfork and northfork of the snake with single hand setups for trout and fishing the salmon river drainage's for steelhead. I had seen some videos and heard talk of spey fishing but didnt get to witness it first hand until i moved to Lewiston two years ago. Some guys i have talked to told me to check out your forum and see if i could gain any info. Im going to be headed up to the red shed to see Poppy this week or next to pick his brain if he doesnt mind.

any direction and tips you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. i look forward to sharing my journey with spey fishing with you guys.

Visiting Poppy is a great first step. Getting familiar with the equipment and test driving some spey outfits before buying anything is good. You have a valuable resource right there who can put you in touch with the right gear and people.

+1 on Red Shed. Can't say enough positive about Poppy and he will set you up right. He put me in touch with an instructor last year that also helped me get started. If you haven't already you might want to join the Kelly Fly Casters down in the valley and/or the Clearwater Fly Casters up in Pullman/Moscow. A lot of seasoned steelhead vets in those two groups and they are very helpful. Just don't ask for specific runs!

Now if the water temps would only start dropping in the Snake so we can get started!
