New Able Spey Reel

I just ordered this in a few days ago and got it delivered to trouthunter promptly. Click and pawl spey with the chrome steelhead paint job. Just wanted to share. She'll look and sound better once growling at a retreating fish!

I wonder when reel makers are going to grow up and make a real reel, instead of kids stuff. We have fancy graphite rods and reels that were in use in China in 1100ad.

Nice reel!!!

Hi GreatWhite

Cool reel.

Even though some people find Abel's Fish Graphics too much, I'll still prefer them as well as the "classics" to some of the ordinary looking modern reels.

Or to put it in another way, as one of my friends said when he got his first (under heavy influence from me )

"If it has to be porn - let it be porn!

Good luck with it and may its brake growl!!

I was playing with a plain and simple black version of the Abel Spey reel yesterday - and it is very nice indeed. The spring and double pawl set-up is very solid and very simple... nice reel.

Thanks everyone! It is a little flashy but i was blessed with a great deal on her so i.had go.all out. Im a fan of old.skool style.anyways. I dig the growl of an ol reel.

Is that a bob clay your fishing xgolf? Beautiful piece of cane. I made my first and only two.handed rod out of cane. Its light though like 5 weight i guess. Low weight scandi heads

Yes it's a clay...I like the graphic's I have the standard steelhead one...the only thing I'm not digging on the reel is even with the tension set full there almost isn't any...feels good in the shop but when you cast with it...I found I had to hold the line at some point or it would keep whirrring out...(new spey term?)....
I'm going to see If engaging both pawls will fix that...

There are plenty of reels out there with all the bells and whistles and drags made of titantium etc. I have probably owned a bunch of them...slowly it seems my reels have click and pawls...with the exception of the sara. which has a drag and I keep just in case...

Ok well that kind of answers my question.... I don't have a shop that carries abel within in a day or so drivin distance so.... I was wondering if the drag can be set to any amount of tension....?? it says adjustable... I own hardy,speyco....so I`m familiar with click and pawl... I`m in the market for a reel to fit a 13`8 weight. 500 bucks without any drag isn`t gonna happen.. please chim in if you have one. I do like the looks and abels quality of their other reels.
thanks in advance

Check out the Youngs 1535 or 1540. They have to be the most under rated reel out there. Great adjustable checks that can be set for R or LHW, an exposed rim for palming like a Marquis and here's the best part----you can usually get a good one for under $150.
