St Marys river Ontario

When would be a good time to head to the St. Marys for some Atlantics and how long does it usually last. Just a time frame would be great and some flies that will produce a fish or two would be great. Definetly heading out there sometime this summer.

Water temp under 60 fish the river, over 60 fish the rapids. Smelt patterns early, everything else later. More fish later in the summer but they can be moody.

I have caught, atlantics, rainbows, and chinook in the rapids in July, seen steelhead and whitefish also.

Cold fast water is the reason, when the baitfish are in look out, you may like this link (the closer to July the better)

We were there about a couple of weeks back and the water was 71. I think I would hold off going until the water cools down some. You take a real beating from the sun when you are in the rapids the whole day. We fished from 8-2 one day, went back to grab food and take a break and all of us passed out for 3 hours from the heat. Can't say it kept us from fishing the evening but something to be aware of. No real shade to be found in the rapids.
