Holy crap! You fish those flies? along with the underwater picture, I'm in love with the second image. Heavenly.

Adrian

Hey inland, thanks for sharing your experience and giving the fellows like me the confidence to swing these flies.

Flies that swing hook canted down catch all the same. Put that worry to bed. I have caught hundreds and hundreds of steelhead on flies where, once the current slows, they ride just like your pic. Does a string look natural to a cat? Or does the movement of the string trigger kittie? Reguardless of what it does look like to the cat we haven't a clue as what or why the silly fish do what they do. Just know they will take your fancy flies all the same as duping that cat with your string of choice.

I have been a member of the nowt club for numerous weeks over the years on both coasts. Certainly not one time can be blamed on the fly pattern, knot used or a canted hook on the swing. Nor can any of the MEGA productive weeks be attributed to the fly pattern, knot used or a level riding hook on the swing.

There is one and only one key ingredient:

Knowing EXACTLY where to find the fish under the conditions you are experiencing.

Fish those patterns with all the confidence in the world, the more you learn about your river(s) and its moods the more you will catch.

William
I missed what I would have posted up as 'My candidate for Post of the Day.'

I love the underwater shot of the fly. Seeing the fly from the fish's perspective is great!
