Top water with the switch.....

i havent done much topwater swinging with my txc 6119, and this summer in alaska i will do doing a ton of mousing....

i was wondering what tip most use for topwater/mousing. i have the mow kit and was planning on using the floating tip, or would a scandi/floating versileader be better using the new scandi short?

thanks!!

I think either/or. I do quite a bit of top water, swing,twitch,pop for smallmouth bass in rivers with various bugs on lighter grained rods than that. Your on the right track with both. For bushy top water bigger stuff, on lighter shorter rods, it does take a spey shooting head with a little extra gas in the tank, horse power under the hood, much like a bass/pike taper for single handers.

I have used both (your example above). The Rio Scandi Short Versi Tip / float 10' tip, DOES have enough power under the hood for such and does it well! Single,snake,snap or doubled. Not all Scandi set up's do in lighter grains. A MOW type float tip or simular modified on skagit also also does this well.

For myself I don't want a long ratio head, often at times while swinging , twitching, working I want to strip too, particularly in slow water ~ just a note to keep in mind.

Last, there is a touchy grain wt. / power area that can be tough to hit. I noted needing some umph , like a bass bug taper in the float tip for air resistant bushy, top water bugs. To much power in the head/tip total grains can also easily cause more blown anchors than you may be patient enough to wait for while fishing. You won't find this w) the Rio Scandi Short properly matched as it lacks the horsepower of skagit heads but, beware with some skagit heads of little to no taper especially if they are also up-grain or skagit grained if you will.

Some heads that I think would work for you that I am familiar with, in no order of preference or other ~
*Rio Scandi Short Versi Tip
* Rio Flight
* Airflo Rage
* Any skagit with at least a modest front taper if you back off the grains on.

your MOW tip ought to work....for what it's worth, I mouse with an LST 6113, sometimes with a 325gr Rio Skagit short w/12ft floating tip, more often with a Rio 6/7 switch line...
