Yes, please let us know if you have this rod.
I have the 16' version, but have been contemplating shorter versions because of my love for this rod. |

I do not have the 12'6" 678, so this may not be any help to you, but I do have the 11'7" 678. The only rod I can compare it to is my ZAxis 7136. I love both rods, but prefer to fish the 11'7". Its light weight, a joy to cast, and I can reach all the same water as with my 7136 with ease. I fish a scandi made by Steve G. Its lighter (444 grains) than what they recommend but is very fun to cast and I can throw sink tips as well.(As a side note, this rod will also cast an AFS 7/8 which is 32 feet long. Its amazing how much line this little rod will pick up.) I also fish a Skagit (475 grains) made by Steve G. and I can cast all the junk I need to, if the situation calls for it. I wish I could describe the action of the rod to you, but all I can say is silky smooth (power distribution), powerful, and you can feel the rod load. Best of luck on picking a rod.

Have it. Dig it. She is a sweet stick but I have to admit that with the 540 SGS I have never truly made her sing. Maybe I just suck, but I have a hard time getting that satisfying "pop" that I get with other sticks. Picked up a 510 compact skagit to try and I hear good things about the 480 compact scandi.

I also just ordered this rod for small stream winter steelhead. Bob recommended getting a spare turbo tip, which gives the rod a bit of a MKS action. It is a strong tip which forces the rod to flex deeper which can be preferable for sutained anchor casting and sink tips. I was a bit torn between this rod (12'6 678 Highlander) or the 11'7 678, both of which are available with a an extra turbo tip of skagit fishing. When I get the 12'6 I will let you know what I think, although I am sure it will be positive.

I have this rod, love it (now). I use it with a 480 grain scandi compact at low water and lighter tippets for Atlantics.
I bought it ~3 years ago, interestingly enough I broke it (operator error) last fall. Bob replaced all top three sections with the new, higher, modulus graphite. This changed the action from "very tippy" to more "mid-flex", much better, in addition, it decreased weight and made the rod lighter. The new rod should be fantastic! |

I planning on ordering this rod for atlantics here on the Miramichi next season. Do you use this rod alot? How does it handle the bigger atlantics. I currently have a 9/10 Scierra and love it for 15-25lbs fish but when you hook a 4lb grilse its way to much power. Its also 14' long is in mid summer in lower water its to long for my liking, hence the upgrade to the 12'-6" 6/7/8? |

Hi...
I've tryed the Meiser Highlander classic 12,6 #6/7/8 for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I liked that rod A LOT... Fantastic nice looking rod and smooth and powerful at the same time. Tried it with many types of line. Shooting heads from 43 to 50 feet in the grain area from 520-570. We also tried a longbelly line and the rod handle that with no problems. I personally liked the rod with the heads in the 43-50 feet area, but a midbelly floater would be a lovely combination too I think... I WANT ONE TOO... Tommy |

Fantastic!
A beautiful rod. And the way you describe it's how I also feel the rod. After I tried the rod the first time, it was just to get in touch with Meiser. After some pleasant email with Meiser, I ordered the rod. It's a rod I just had to have! The rod has absolutely everything that I like: it is power full and smooth at the same time. Meiser describes the rod as follows: These are extremely authoritive two handed rods, yet When put to Work They offer the caster a sensual, uniform power and flex That Will carry nicely into the cork When under full load line. Speed of recovery is quick and power transfer is IMMEDIATELY responsive two caster minimal effort. This describes the rod perfectly in my opinion. Try this rod with a shooting head with a length of 43-45 feet and about 540 grain ...... and you will fall in love ![]() And not least is the craftsmanship of the rod first class. Børre. |
