Newfoundland, Humber River.

Just got seat-sale tickets for the family to go to beautiful Newfoundland next July. My wife is from the Cornerbrook area, and we have been back twice in the last 7 years. Both times I brought my flyrod, and caught Atlantic salmon in the upper Humber with her uncle as a guide! What a blast!
So now I have a Anglers Roost 14 foot 5/6, and all I can think about is skating dry flys to Atlantics...... I'm gonna be practicing my junk, thats for sure!

that rod is way to light ive seen Atlantics to 40 lbs in the Humber and have cought some over 20

I usually fish a Loop 14 for 9 or a Thomas and Thomas 15 for 10 or At a minimum my 12'4" loop 8 wt

Hi Campx.I fish the Humber and your 14' 5/6 would be certainly adequate for Grilse,I do fish some lighter rods and have no problem releasing healthy fish.If I were targeting larger salmon I would fish one of my 13' 8 weights.

The ARE [Anglers Roost] 14' 5/6 is underated. Has been a topic in different threads lately. More of a 7/8 quick action rod. See post #4 of linked thread below.

I caught a couple 'grilse' on my 7/8wt singlehander, in the 3 1/2 - 4 pound range, and I must say that was a handful! Can't believe the screaming runs those things can do. Only thing to compare to that was bonefish in Belize!
