Kevin,
This is a lot more than a little better than the last one. This is, as is said in some parts of the U.S., "Mo' Betta". Wing is perfect length and sits properly. I'd make it just a tad bit wider, which would improve its silouette, but it is fine as is. I'd made the tinsel tip at least 1/2 as long. Tips are nothing more than a bit of brightness at the very end of the body and virtually always only 2-3 turns of fine flat tinsel, or 4-6 turns of fine or extra fine oval tinsel. I'd make the rear body a bit shorter in order to allow the front body segment look more in proportion to it. In order to get a fly that looks 50/50 front and rear body segments, you need to make the rear segment about 40% and the front segment about 60% (2/5ths/3/5ths is another way to think about it. The reason for this is because the wing and throat hackle are mounted on the front of the fly and as a result to cause the eye to see the body segments as unequal unless the rear segment is shorter than the front one. Your skill is coming along nicely for spey flies. Keep up the good work. |
