LOOKING FOR classic fly wallets of the 1800's

have been searching for old classic or traditional fly wallets,have looked at the thread hear ,but its newer stlyes.
Im looking for the old ones ,such as the one on trey combs books with the double buckles.
but older ,and since we see classic style flies here,well I figured there has to be some place to find old wallets just like old fly patterns.
thx

I've seen a number of fine examples offered recently on eBay UK. So far, the market has been bearing higher prices than what I'm comfortable paying.

I am interested in copying patterns of old ,ive some elk and deer hyde left and since im interested in traditional flies from classical tyers ,I figured id give er a go.
so late 1800's pictures of fly tyers and steelhead fishermen of that era ,im just having a hard time finding anything yet.
we got alot of eyes and ears here ,so thats why I tought of posting here.

Early 1900s;

I'm not sure of exactly what you are looking for but thought these may give you some ideas. Here is one that I have been happy with. I received this as a gift from an antique dealer in 1980. They come for sale once and a while on eBay. It has heavy felt pages and a storage pocket for leader and the like in both of the end folds.

It is the larger black leather one in this picture. If you could come across one of these you may like it. It has a lanyard that is not seen in the picture to guard against a drop loss while in the river. The red leather one came with it and is a bit smaller for the pocket and has the same pages and pockets. It appears to be newer perhaps 1950s or so. As you can see it has not seen the use of the black one. Best advice I can offer is to watch the auction web site.

The majority I've seen from the late-1800's are set up similar to Ard's example. Leather outer with one or two strap/buckle closures, linen pages for individual flies, and some type of pocketry for leaders and/or "casts" of flies.

I believe the most recent I saw was dated around 1890 and was handsomely stocked with period ties. Winning bid was on the order of £800, if I remember correctly.

I went on google & typed in "fly wallet" and found a bunch of sites. Don't want to name them here as they are not sponsors, but one had a sweet looking leather Hardy wallet with felt.

Uhm, Kevin, i believe i've seen one of those with double bucle in some of Oliver Edward's DVDs, i will check it out on the next days for you and will tell you which one it exactly is. I think i've put a mark on the video because i was thinking to reproduce it myself (i'm fan of that oldish stuff myself too). The one i've seen has the leather cover but on the inside it is a piece of sheep fur; i've seen some old fly wallets here all made with sheep inside for drying the flies.

Hey

Just a thought, but Poppy has some (new ) old style leather fly wallets you might want to look at too.

That sounds really great! you can bet it would be more than only "one" fly hehe Getting the book here is as easy as putting it into certified mail (common mail usually get "lost" in the way....) Being my main influence on fly tying, having that book from Oliver would mean to me much more than what a book is usually valued
