Looking at reels for Switch rods

large arbor a must

fishing a 5/6 weight Switch, if I use a 7/8 weight reel could change the spool out and use it on a 7/8 rod

price range is under $500

I like the Hatch reels but the 5 seems a bit small, maybe not, and the next size up is $700

any recommendations would be appreciated

currently I am seriously considering Mieser's reels, very affordable and great reviews

skagit set up

many thx!

It just doesn't make much sense to me to spend SO much on a reel ( unless you want to ) since I consider the reel to be less important than the rod or line, imo

anyway, I have found everyone's recommendations here very helpful

thx

How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

Dingle,

can you tell me more about considerations regarding cold weather and reels?

thanks!

MJC - have any experience with Lamson, all their reels are reasonably priced, though I'm not looking for a cheap or the cheapest reel, just under $5 beans that performs well

thanks all!

Good choice. I have a Hardy Zenith on my 5wt. Great combo. Give Steve Godshall a holla for a line setup.

thx

just closed on the Lamson litespeed 3.0

who's Steve Godshell and where may I contact him?

forgive my lack of depth in who is who in the FF world, I've been fishing for nearly 2 decades but only recently expanded my horizon and tackle box

I'm partial to Miesers skagit set up so far

Steve is who makes the lines for Meiser's shop, so you're on the right track. You can call Bob's shop or type Steve's name or SGS into the search function and his number will pop up.
