flat bottom muddlers

I was in a shop the other day and they had muddlers trimed flat on the bottom of the head this seems simple enough but the collar layed perfectly flat as well any ideas as how to do this ,I hear they will skate better this way Thanks

I use the flexible razor blades. You can trim the bottom flat, then bend them between your thumb and finger to make the top rounded.

Sounds like a zoo cougar by the description. Not the best waker. Comes alive with a jerk on a sink tip.

Try using a battery powered beard trimmer to shape the head then use a hot knife blade pressed on the open ends of the cut deer hair to seal the individual hollow tubes into mini floatation chambers, this will prevent the water being absorbed & keep the fly bouyant & on top of the water - meaning the pick up to re-cast is easier & less splashy than with a semi-submerged fly.
