Snake fly step by step.

Back a few months ago, there was a thread with snake flies in it and a lot seemed to like the idea. so thought i would do a step by step how to make mounts and dress the flies.

Both ends threaded, by use a darning needle. size 6 treble and size 14 swivel. you can make them up also with single and double hooks.

Here the ends have been pulled up when you do this just put a tiny dab of super glue on the doubled lengths not to much as the glue will run up the braid and make it stiff, you want to keep mount flexi. and you can see the shrink tube shrunk over mount with steam of kettle, and before it is shrunk size of tube is 2.2mm.

Now place hook in vice, if you want add some flash.

Now here i have put mylar over mount and opened up mylar, here you get extra flash this way.

Here mylar is tied in, note i have tied mylar just behind barrel of swivel just a few turns
by doing this it will give you a nice small head.

Here are a few mounts that i have made up, some i do with loops not swivels. as a number of the guys i tie these up for like to add cone heads for fishing deep or fast water.

Here's a little tip for you guys who don't have colored mylars, you can use colored braids and this will show though pearl mylar and glow nice when wet. or white braid and use high lighter pens.

Now you will have to take mount out of the vice, and tie in wing in hand. it take's getting use to but with practice it will come.

And here is the finished fly,i have added a cheek and some jungle cock.

Hope you like step by step, have a go these flies really fish well.

Merry Christmas and happy new year, fellow Speyers.

Dai
