How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

Many thanks to Mike and Linda at the Red Shed Fly Shop for donating a turnkey rod/reel/line package to Spey O Rama 2009. This generous offering helps fund our fun, and is appreciated by the members of the Spey community who enjoy this wonderful event.

Mike joins our long list of gracious givers. Please see speyorama.com for a list of sponsors/donors to this year's event.

Thumbs up 2009 Speyorama - 17. 18 & 19 April

2009 Speyorama - 17. 18 & 19 April

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club will be presenting the Jimmy Green International Spey-O-Rama & Fly Casting Festival April 17th, 18th, and 19th, 2009 at the world renown casting ponds located in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. GGACC is devoted to introducing everyone to fly casting and angling at their historical club and facility. The event is open to the public and admittance is free.

The event will center on Spey casting competitions and single hand and two-hand casting demonstrations by fly casting experts. There are three ways to cast a fly line with the traditional single-handed rod; the roll cast, the overhead cast, and the Spey cast. The Spey cast originated and was developed in Scotland and is most often used with two handed fly rods.

Local, domestic and International casting masters will be offering free demonstrations and clinics each day.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday is my favorite day: "Premium Fly-Fishing rod and reel manufacturers will have their products available for you to use to hone your skills."

Also, Spey experts from America, the UK and around the world will be there, and most will help you with casting problems and gaining new skills.

Doug Duncan is signed up to compete.

Thanks to Fred Evans for asking about Doug Duncan. Doug will compete in SOR 2009. He is looking for gold this time, having garnered silver last year.

Doug's name will be added to speyorama.com asap.

Sorry about that Doug.

Bob,

You possibly heard this from Donna, but we will not be making it to SOR this year. This is very regrettable to all of us, since it is such a wonderful event and we had such a great time the last two years.

Unfortunately, Olga has been sick since before SOR last year. She caught giardia in March of 2008, and though supposedly free of the parasite a couple of times, it came back at least once and her stomach continues to give her trouble. She dropped from 120 to 85 pounds, and is now between 95 and 100. She is under the care of a gastroenterologist, and may soon be referred to an infectious disease specialist.

She surely caught the giardia while practicing for SOR last year. It probably was just a drop of water splashing off the line, or wet fingers touching her mouth. It has been a terrible ordeal for her, and she is fortunate she only missed a couple months of school, and will graduate on time.

We hope the event is as wonderful as always, and perhaps we will see you in 2010. Say hi to the other organizers for us, and share our regrets that we can't be there this year.

Regards,
Bill

Bill,
All of us at SOR will miss you and your lovely family. Our prayers are with you all, and of course, most especially with Olga.

It has always been a joy for SOR to welcome Roman and Olga as the new blood coursing through the Spey casting fraternity. They will be missed, as well as you and Mrs. Koran.

Very best,
Bob

One has to look out for these 3 when they get on the road. They were having such a GOOD TIME on the way home last year they called up Poppy and ordered some pink Hotshots and pink rubber worms.

I guess it was all legit as I think they were planning on using two handers to cast this stuff.
