Mishler is the Man. Reading his stuff got me started and hooked on steelheading. His photo Essay "Chasing Ghosts" in the March 2008 issue of "Fly Rod & Reel" made me the junkie I am today.

I'm sure the 4th video will rock like the first two.

If I read that right, he says that he added footage from SM 1&2 because a vast amount of people have't seen them, and by doing so he can increase his income by those folks buying the other two.

So let me get this straight. You edited in older video footage in the new film so you can save money in the production of this one and make money off the already released films. Just want to clarify that i'm interpreting that correctly.

I guess making a profit is a dirty word.

Thumbs up Overall, worth the time to watch

I picked up a copy at my local brick and motar fly shop to support them. I liked the balance of the the lifestyle and human interest with the fly tying. I learned a few tying tricks that I will apply to my own fly tying practices. However, I also learned that presentation quality flies aren't needed for catching fish, to wit -

* I was astonished to see Hannah flip the bobin around the fly with a flick of her finger rather than drawing around the fly to keep tension on the threads.
* Hickman dubs right on the tying thread without a loop.
* Ed Ward uses a bodkin for a tube vice and makes it work

Still, there is definitely inovative materials, methods and patterns to make it worth your while. I am looking forward to the next DVD in the series.

Mark

As far as the rehashed footage from the first two SM Dvd's appearing in SM III is concerned the problem I have with the footage, is that when I am spending as much as it costs for a volume in this series, I do not to watch footage I have already seen I want to see something new.

I very much agree that Ed, Jerry, and Scott should be included in this SM III but instead of rehashing old footage how about Ed and Scott tie something new for this installment?

I know there are additional costs involved but from my point of view it would sell a whole lot more SM I & II Dvd's to say here's this fly for SM III and if you would like to see what else they have tied for this series try SM I & II.

Thank you,

Add me to the disappointed list. The flies looked good with the underwater shots. It was good to see how they were tied. Didn't care for the fish taco cooking scene and filleting a steelhead and chucking the guts into the river. The tacos did look good however. Hannah looked great compared to all the grizzled steelhead junkies in the film. She has a great video out on you tube...."steelhead dreams part 2" I enjoyed her free video more than SM3. Tom Larimer plays a mean guitar. I,m sure I'll watch it again someday but I liked the first two videos better.

You got this right!
In all my years of fishing I never bought a single DVD on casting or anything fishing related. Yet last week when I ended up in between two other spey fishing guys on a river I had never fished, it was me who got the fish.

I do not begrudge anybody fishing the best rivers in the wold or dating 20 year old super models, but if I am supposed to pay the bill on that, no thanks!

Tie everything together with a conservation theme and show all that we have lost to give context to what we have left and what we are fighting for. Not sure if this format would be viable or not but it seems to me that it is a story that should be told to the next generation of steelhead flyfishing anglers. Would be a fitting way to end the series. Just one man's view...
+1

That would be a MONEY episode!

The craft has risen to unimaginable heights, but the quarry has been depleted to unfathomable lows.

I think about the loss of the Skagit C&R spring season and find it ironic that one can no longer cast a fly into the hallowed waters where the namesake casting style was born.

BTW, I understand there is a Occupy Skagit protest of sorts being loosely organized to bring the C&R season back. Folks will be LEGALLY casting HOOK-LESS flies to make a point to managers about how important that C&R season is to them.

As for the SM3 vid.... I'm placing my order tonight to support Mr Mishler's tireless efforts to help elevate our sport to even greater heights and showcasing its best elements on screen.

Thank you very much. You've been very supportive from the beginning.

SM4 will be quite different from the other three. Working now to get it done.

Added SM3 to..

..my collection, yesterday. After watching it this morning, glad that I did. Didn't mind the repeat's from SM1 & 2. Great technique's, overall. Underwater views in different light was an eye-opener. Best music of the 3 IMO. My only critique; a little on the short side, TWSS, as compared with SM2, especially.

Yes it was pretty good, very short if you take out the recycled stuff. I enjoyed the new content but it was slim to say the least.
