Need Reel Input...........

Guys ,
this past fall i aquired a Scott G 14' 9 wt spey.I would like to get a reel that will balance it, not sure what line to get since the Rio Windcutter is supposedly no more{i am not even sure that is true or not}.I do not want a skagit system or a scandi system. I really prefer a floating line and if i need to get down i use Airflo Polyleaders or the newer Rio Versa Leaders.
Please help, i dont want to go broke buying a good reel.

With that uplock reelseat the Ross CLA 6 ($285.00) will work on there well.

If you're on a tight budget put an Echo 10/12 ($100.00) on it.

The WC is discontinued but there are still a few in the shops. The Vector in a 9/10 should be a smokin dry line for that rod.

How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

Reels

Rick: if the reel seems a little light (like many modern reels are) you can always wind on some LC13 or lead core before the backing.

30' of LC13 is just under an ounce, Cortland's specs for leadcore line is, 27# - 114 gr, 36# - 118 gr, 45# - 124 gr per ten foot.

I have also taken 18-20" of parachute cord and stuffed it with round shot, I have one at .50, .75, & 1.00 oz, I seal the ends leaving a few inches of unfilled cord on each end, they should be long enough to wrap around the reel seat just behind the reel or around the foot and then tie a square knot to hold it and tuck in any loose end or tape it. This can help you dial in a close weight to what you need if the reel used has the Spey line wound on it, I have used this during casting practice for an hour or more to see what weight works best during actual fishing.

10 oz reel for traditional line, I would suggest

illustrating rods with reels, reflecting my should width, handle, et cetera. Reel balance is dependent on how you like to hold-cast and swing. I favour towards the heavy side.

http://raspberryfisher.wordpress.com...houlder-width/

discussion on balance including the Scott 14' 9wt ARC with excerpt below >

http://raspberryfisher.wordpress.com...-the-spey-rod/

•Scott ARC 1409 9wt, being converted to through deep and heavy flies on Skagit Heads (Airflo 600 gr). In doing so: ◦Cork handles has been placed on the lathe, reshaped and I have removed the heavy hand-finger indentations and have made it more neutral to allow my hand to shift.
◦Moving to a Nautilus 12S at 13.5oz (empty reel weight) from the Nautilus 12DD at 10.5oz, I have moved the balance point back from from front edge at 2″ to 3.75″. The grip is not long at the G-Loomis, and I would like to move the hand further in by another 1-2″, but this would required another 3-4oz – too much.
◦If I was buying a new reel from scratch (instead of changing spools), I would look at something in the 14oz range.
◦So this is where is stands, as a Tradiitonal Rod, yeah, you can use a reel around 10oz (like a Nautilus 12DD), but as I this is my heavy Skagit rod, my line is spooled on a Nautilus 12S.

The Redington Delta is another good value priced match that will balance a bigger rod. Airflo has just discontinued the Tactical Steelhead, but there are quite a few around and they are very nice for both floating and sinking line work and a bit longer than most heads out there.
