A newb looking for help and newcomer to Alaska

Hey Y'all I am an Oregon fella new to Alaska and have decided a while back I want to learn to go for the double-hand. My wife has known about my desire and recently I came home from the slope for my birthday to find myself a new double-hander. So, with that being said I would like to be able to meet and chat with fellow Alaskans that double-hand and could give me some advice (anyone) maybe some lessons (certified or not (I can buy the beers)); if y'all have the time?

So I now have a Lamiglass CST Spey 14' 10/11 with an Okuma reel; I cant remember the details on the reel and Im not at home right now (on the slope) to look. She bought the setup from the owner of BJ's in Anchorage. It is no longer made so the owner gave her a good package deal from what Im told {Im not sure}.

I keep reading about all these lines/heads/tapers etc.. and yes I am wondering what did I get myself into?

So Simply I would like some advice on type of lines from backing to ends on this style of rod, PLEASE?

And any Alaskans reading this I could use some casting buddies...

Thank You,

Steve

Steve,

Look up AKcaster, FFF Two handed instructor in Anchorage. There would be no problem getting you started.

Alaska Help

A couple pieces here.

In Anchorage, a shop centering on 2handing is Mossy's. They just brought Dec Hogan up for two classes. Tim Linehan from Oregon is next in about two weeks.

I'm happy to meet up either in Anchorage, or on the river for some casting (as long as there is fishing too). No need to buy beer. For the next week I'll be on the East Coast with a family emergency. For about the week after, I'll be down on the Kenai in Cooper Landing. Easy to learn there.

In the valley, I have another idea, but will speak with that member first before giving him up.

The season is upon us. Bend the rod. PM for more...

I think I know who you mean. We need to get together one of these days.

Steve,

I am pretty well booked until mid July but maybe can be of some help. I fish more than I cast but I cast enough to catch fish

Getting together

Ard,

I saw that today Kings shut down in the valley too! My son took his first one in the Kasilof on solstice. I think that's the only river open, with restrictions of course. We need to look at trout/dolly fishing, and wait for the Silvers I guess.

Time to have a speyrodders meeting (11 pm sunset with scotch) after a day of fishing. Cooper Landing?

Maybe I'll take up moose hunting to supplement the groceries.

Lets get this guy fishing when he's not on the slope.
