Transitioning from winter to summer lines

Every year it seems like the first time I swap skagit lines for Scandi type lines to fish a floating setup it takes part of a run to get dialed in casting. The scandi head, leader and tippet are around ten to fourteen feet longer than the heads, sink tips and tippets I fish in the winter/spring. What casting adjustments do you focus on when you make the skagit to Scandi switch to make the transition quickly? Focus on touch and go vs. sustained anchor, change length of stroke, slow down, speed up etc. What works for you?

For the switch from Skagit to summer lines:

I tryed the Scandi heads but did not like them. So I went with a line that is halfway between a Skagit and a Scandi.

The Airflo Rage compact is that line and I now use it for all my surface & near surface presentation work in late spring/summer/early fall.

A couple of non-expert observations. The waters I fish both winter and summer require the use of Skagit and Scandi. Wide, open water in lower river and tight brushy water (no room to swing a cat) on the tribs. I don't carry extra spools any longer and I don't like to change out full lines on the river. Steve Godshall's Scandit is both Scandi and Skagit in one line and works very well in both modes.

The Scandi tip is a loop to loop connection to the Skagit driver, a very quick change. After using this system for a couple of years I couldn't be happier. The transition from SA casts to snake rolls is easy now and enjoyable. I've also also found a direct correlation between my casting success and time spent practicing.

Good luck, have fun.

I went thru the same thing with scandi lines. I was a little apprehensive because I didn't want to drop 60 bucks on a new line. I bought a Airflo rage one of my rods and I must say this line is awesome. Its lives up to the hype.
