Thanks for posting this. Fingers crossed the river is in fishable shape. We're there 3rd week of September... If it's anything like last year we'll be in BIG trouble and will be playing cards...AGAIN.

Just out of curiousity, is your decision to go to the BI a result of the AMP?

Nope. We're 3 Ontarioans and 1 Vancouverite. We've fished the Bulkley the past 3 years and just wanted a change of scenery.

We'll likely go back to the Bulkley next year unless we have a great experience on the BI.

We chose the BI for a few reasons: 1) fit our budget 2) zero crowds 3) new water 4) heard great things about Jeroen Wohe.

We all love the Bulkley. It does get crowded at times, but it blows away any river in Ontario....hands down! Outside of guides we spend at least $1500 each in the local economy of Smithers (not the lodges). Glad to do so and will continue doing so.

As a Canadian taxpayer I respect the rights of locals, Canadians, but also recognize the need for foreign dollars as well. I hope we can find the happy medium.

In the end we all just want to cast, swing, step in paradise...

I do hope all of you have sent in your letters.

You have until Aug 31 to do so. Pacific trails gas line is approved and paves the way, so to speak, for the Enbridge project. If that gets built in this corridor, its only a matter of time that something will go wrong and you can kiss things downstream as you now know it good by...

Copy the SSBC letter if you don't feel like composing your own: http://www.steelheadsociety.org/news...ateway-project

Thumbs up

I got blown out last fall on the BI so did not get to fish it. Before the great flood it was a truly beautiful river. Went back this spring and fished with Jeroen. He and Derek are superb. I am sure you will have a wonderful time with them, just keep the fingers crossed that the monsoon does not return with such a vengeance.

The Key words are "RESPONSIBLE" fisherman/Fisher people. If all responsible fisherman get together on both sides of the boarder-we may be able to save whats left of the our fisheries! If not then you have California- where a great part of our water is diverted for other uses, dammed,or polluted. From what I`ve seen of the PNW/BC- EVERY one should send emails weekly to their respective gov leaders, demanding these life giving rivers be saved. Why not start a fund on Spey Pages to put some hard earned funds to good use? (maybe thats not possibile on Spey Pages?) Auction`s for goods that do good? I`am rather new to Spey pages, but not new to flyfishing.Any thoughts?
If you google the salmon farms in BC-its hard to belive whats going on!-
A similar project was started off the coast of souther calif,Bonehead management deceided to cut the Kelp beds in the 50/60`s- they planned to cut down about 6 feet to clear surface (sell the kelp/make it easier to run the outboard over the kelp area) ,well the kelp was actuall torn out from the roots, the kelp died off (pollution did not help!).Guess what happened to one of the great local fisheries?-The fishing has tried to recover for over 45 years.
Someone? all of us? Need to get pi**ed off enough to band together to save what you very fortunate PNW/ BC "Responsible" fisherman live near or on.
