Sage TCX 10150....reviews please!

Hi Guys,

I'm toying with the idea of a 15ft TCX for Skagit and Shooting Head work. I've heard mixed reviews of this rod so was wondering if any of you guys use this stick on a regular basis?
The rod will replace a Loop Opti PowerSpey 15ft.

Thanks!

They are not bad but performance vise not much of an upgrade from Opti

Perhaps stronger anyway?

15 ft TCX

An awful lot of the people in our club here in Cumbria (North of England) are fishing the 15 foot TCX, which must say something for the rod, given that it isn't the least expensive tool. Most of them are using spey lines, though; in fact one of my chums was using an ancient DT line on his the other day and it seemed to go okay. I suspect the 14 footer is a better rod for shooting heads; I have no idea how the 15 footer would be with a skagit.

I've been fishing this rod for a few years and I use it for high water June fishing on Gaula in Norway. In my opinion this is a specific rod for 'spring'type of salmon fishing. In Norway I use Scandinavian style sinking shooting heads on the rod. This works great for me with 43-45 gram heads. I use Guideline traditional S3/S4 and S2/S3 on the rod. Or the 3D 5/3/1, 6/4/2 or 7/5/3 lines also cut to 43-45 grams

The rod also handles the midbelly spey lines well. I do not like to use Skagit heads on 15'#10 weight rods. You need a 700-750 grain Skagit line and this all gets to big an clumsy for my liking.

I would not recomment this rod for steelhead fishing or summer salmon, its too much of a stick for this. The 14'#9-weight is an excellent choice for big salmon fishing if you like the Scandinavian shootinghead in 35-37 grams.

Best regards,

Menno, who is SAGE friendly...
