Will you have internet access? If you have there are a few sites here that you could look at a day or two in advance to decide which river would be the better option.

Watch out for the Irish Whiskey

Hi , Glad to hear you have found a Ghillie , money well spent.
Good idea to get the practice in , Guiness drinking is an acquired art, its all about cutting down on your food intake, to leave room for the black stuff !!!:tsk:
Just watch out for the Irish Whiskey, it's triple distilled which makes it very smooth, but NOT LESS alcoholic .It goes down far too easy, sneaks up on you and hits you hard the next day!!!!That mixed with a few (8 or more )Guinesses means the next morning you feel like you have lumps in your blood !!
Each time it goes over your temple you feel a bump !
The girls might try and get you drinking ' mini Guinesses ' These things will kill you ! not too shore what is in them BAILEYS and something . AVOID THEM AT ANY COST !!:ts k_tsk:
Hope it stops raining for you, check river levels on fishpal, tides will be good just keep up the training !!!

Brian

I think we're talking about "Irish car bombs" if so, I'm a dead man walking.
Isn't there a little salmon river by the Old Bushmills distillery? I may never go home.

First wild salmon

Back home and I want to thank everyone who helped me catch my first ever Wild Atlantic Salmon.
The Mourne is now my favourite river, in one day I managed to land one salmon and miss four others (two were because I thought I was fishing back home and tried to hammer down on the fish like a smallie). I didn't have enough time to get out salmon fishing any other days but the guinness washed away the pain.
Also the ghillie taught me the power of a 15' rod. just makes life so much easier on a larger sized river (larger than my home river).
Thanks everyone.
Slancha,
Gord

great to hear

Hi Gord, so glad you had the chance to fish, and catch a Salmon.
When fishing a larger rod it's so easy to put too much pressure on a fish.
You tend to forget that the length multiplies the power you put in.
Sounds like you enjoyed the Irish hospitality .
Whens your next trip ?

Brian

Don't know. I need money and a way to disappear for a week without my wife and kid noticing. They only notice me when I'm gone.
