Yes sir Brian, awesome demonstrators, and a friday night Brat feed it's gonna be ... };^) ... !!!
The Barge hole on the Scaramento River is a fine place for a two handed gathering, with a broad bar that goes a long, long ways ... Always swinging to the inside curve, with nice clean even hydraulics and just the right speed. Great place for instruction in all regards, and good fishing in season. I think you'd like it. Good to see Kerry's rods at this event. If their's any chance you'll be down this way, it'd be good to see you again. Meiz |

Thank You!!!!
Thank you for a great event. I had a fantastic time even with the wind. The location was perfect. There was plenty of room for casting and great places to camp on the bar. The demos were spot on the mark. Your club members are the "Best" I was only sorry I missed Bob Meiser's "Chicken Barbecue" Friday night. I heard, besides making great rods, he's a pretty good cook. Thank You for the great time, and I will see you next year.

Kudos
to the Shasta Trinity Flyfishers. It was a great event. The location was outstanding, lots of prime camping spots and plenty of river. The wind lent a real world context to the casting demos and flying canopy's are one of my favorite things. And the Meiz is a fire box Chef of great skill. The food was great, but the Campfire was even better. Everyone's passion and knowledge of our sport was impressive, from rods and lines to flies and heron feathers.
I've had the good fortune to spend time with a few of the Jedi, but Ron Hayashi is something else again!! If there were belts in in two handed casting Ron would be Han-shi, the best in skill and character. And it sounds like next year might be a two day event. Thanks to everyone for the hard work that made this clave so successful. sixheads

This event rose to a new level this year. Last year things were a little more spread out so it was a little more difficult to to attend the presentations and talk with the vendors, with the vendors and the STFF booth near the water it made it more compact and easier to see the vendors and view the presentations. Speaking of the presentation what an outstanding job they all did, but for me the high point would have to be when Mike McCune was asked how to land a fish with a spey rod and about 10 minutes later he hooks, lands, and demos the proper way to land a fish with a spey rod and not break the tip of the rod, almost as if the fish was on queue.
Bill did an outstanding job of organizing this event and clearly made improvements from last years observations. Hopefully this event will continue next year. |

A small and incomplete sample of event images.
The morning crowd was enthusiastic and dressed to spey. ![]() Lead off presenter Dax Messett gets the crowd warmed up with Common Faults and Simple Solutions. ![]() If you didn't put rocks on your chair it might end up in the River. ![]() Whitney and Cookie Monster ham it up for the camera, along with some unidentified innocent bystanders. ![]() The afternoon crowd, canines included, intent on casting demonstrations. ![]() Whitney Gould and Kara Tripp(?) demonstrating the basic elements of Spey Casting. ![]() Did someone mention that it was really windy ? ![]() Hardy souls brave Tierra del Fuego force winds to cast the rods on their wish lists. ![]() Clean up presenter Mike McCune (Advanced Spey Techniques) demonstrates the proper technique for landing and releasing a fish when using a Spey Rod. Yes, an actual Sacramento River rainbow trout caught on a soft hackle.
