Perfection Loop On Poly Leaders
I have had, on 2 occasions, perfection loops break right at the knot on ploy leaders of 24 LB test. Once with a fish on. I do not know the brand of poly leaders that I was using. Have others experienced this? Is there a better knot?

Pick one - any one! Almost all the other non-slip loop knots are better than the 'perfection' loop.

Yes I have had the same problem. It is very frustrating.

That's pretty funny ducer but, how are other knots better?
I've heard this before about p-loops I don't see how a loop breaking twice is a big deal, if you fish a lot. I've never had one break and I use perfection loops for everything except line to arbor, simply because they are easy and reliable. |

I thought it was fairly common knowledge about the tests on perfection loop vs other non-slip loop knots - eg. the Non-Slip Mono Loop Knot aka 'Kreh Loop'
w w w dot netknots.com/html/non_slip_loop_knot.html which tests at near 100% of mono break strength I too used to think that the perfection loop was very good, with high ratio of break strength compared to the mono being used, but I was corrected, in 2007, on this very board by this: "JR SPEY 01-18-2007, 04:44 PM The truth is that there are at least three versions of this knot, not including how many wraps one makes. I've used all three and found all three to be stronger than, for instance, the perfection loop mentioned above, which usually tests out at about 65-75%. I do believe, though, that the version shown in the book referenced above is probably the strongest. However, since I want the break to occur at the tippet-to-fly connection rather than up the leader somewhere (like when I'm hung-up) I'm usually happy with an 85-95% knot, which I think all three versions of the non-slip can achieve when tied correctly." on the thread http://www.speypages.com/speyclave/a...p/t-24635.html & I have stopped using the perfection loop since. Although this isn't traditional and some may not like it, it does work.
Perhaps try using a super small swivel from spro or one of the tiny rings for furled leaders. Use your faborite knot for fluoro or mono and you will be good to go. The nice thing is that you won't "eat up" as much of the polyleader during it's "life." |

FGS, Good suggestion,I've used them on my poly-leaders and furled leaders for several years, they have worked very well for me. They have eliminated the creeping demise of my poly-leaders and the wear and tear on the terminal end of the furled leaders.

I've had problems with polyleaders breaking too and it sounds like I'm not alone. I don't think it's due to the perfection loop though, because I've used that knot for my tippets and they've never broken at the perfection loop. I think that polyleaders themselves are to blame. They seem to be made of poor quality materials. I now use a scandi line with tips and haven't had any problems since.

Check out this blog by Tom Larimer. It probably would solve your problem because then you are tying the Perfection Loop on your leader of preference.

I have the same bad experience with the perfection loop. For many years I use the Rapala knot (loop), it is pretty much like the Kreh Loop. This knot I even use for tying the hook when I want it hanging lose and more mobile, often on tube flies and even on small dressed hook flies.
Try this; w w w dot animatedknots.com/rapala/index.php |
