Has anybody had the female ferulle crack on a sage or any other rod ? Thanks , Fsh-Head

I think this will happen to most spey rods over time. That is one reason why taping the ferrules is so important. The spiral wrap half of the taping exercise is designed to protect the female ferrule from the internal pressures that create the cracks. It really is the longitudinal strip (the other half of taping) which is intended to prevent the ferrules from working loose.

Yup, I agree with JR Spey. Over the years I've either blown up or have been present when others blew up rods from many of the major manufacturers, and the failure most often occurs at or very near the ferrules. Waxing and taping your ferrules helps the most, but it is also important to make certain that you are lining your rod properly. While some Speys are quite happy to be overlined somewhat, many aren't and will fold up on you eventually if you are pushing too many grains. Also, consider the rod's design--some rod designers are comfortable casting shooting head style lines on two-handers but not so with long bellied lines. We've seen a few rods over the past few years perform very well with Windcutter-type lines, only to quickly explode when an Accelerator-type line is used.
