Flies that don't catch fish

This site is full of great flies that catch fish all the time. I thought I’d post a few pics of flies some of my flies that do not catch any fish.

I had the chance earlier this year to do a little winter fishing on the left coast with a good friend. I fished hard for a week and got the complete skunk-o-rama. Good times were had though. (The query from all my Colorado friends..."you fished every day, from dawn til dusk for a week, and caught nothing....and had fun???" Indeed my man! Can't wait to go back.)

Cheers,

Dan

Don't have much of this green stuff where I live...

My pal hooked up right as I was taking this shot....D'Oh!!!

Fishy no like.

I enjoyed swinging it even if the fish didn't agree.

I never like to see a fly that swims arse down and head up. It's totally unnatural looking.

Is it happening to your fly because you are just holding it in the water for the shot, or does it fish like this too ?

Love the water shot! This is absolutely how all fly pictures should be taken!

What knot you use for the leader to fly?

paddymc: I took the pic in very slow moving water so I didn’t go arse up & head down myself. I think it swings more level in current. Getting an underwater fly shot to turn out at all was a pain. Hard to get it centered/focused.

Eunan: I use what I call a lefty’s loop. It’s basically just a non-slip loop that Lefty Kreh publicized. I’ve used it forever for trout streamers. I like the free action it allows.

Thanks for looking.

I'm also a member of that "fished hard for a week and got the complete skunk-o-rama" club, in fact twice over...on the right coast. And like you, couldn't wait to go back. Great photos!
Ever the optimist (but only where fishing is concerned),

That's what I thought when I saw the photo. Don't get me wrong the flies look great and I have no doubt they will get you fish soon, .

try the double turle knot. It keeps your fly ridding perfect. Up through a up eye fly and down through a down eye fly.
