I have noticed in many posts that here are many Hardy Marquis reel owners and perhaps also few users. I own currently Salmon 3 reel, which has a good line capacity and a mighty sound.
When the reel was bought, the click check mechanism was set-up for right hand retrieve, and only one pawl was enabled form the two available. I just few days ago had a great idea to test the reel with both spring pawls set-up simultaneously to right hand retrieve position. And what happened? The check mechanism works in my mind now better than before, as the pawls do not clink at the same time, but only one at the time, resulting in a "smoother" action (smooth may not be the right word when Marquis is concerned, but you know what I mean). Also the sound is even better than before, as instead of click, click, click it is now click-clak, click-clack, etc. As the pawls work one at the time, the "breaking force" is not increased, but rather distributed more evenly.
If I have discovered the wheel again here (which most likely is the case) please do not let me know. Otherwise any comments would be nice, if someone has a practical experiance about this, as I have only tested it at home, with rod and a line, attached into a door knob.
